Michael brings to the Board substantial experience in government and non-government organisations. His roles in government include the Director of Schools in Victoria, Executive Director Children, Youth and Family Services Bureau (ACT) and State Program Manager for Children Youth and Family Support in Tasmania.

Michael has also worked in the non- government sector where he has chaired and been a Board member of a number of agencies. He is currently a member of the board of the national agency responsible for monitoring the quality of early childhood services in Australia and a board member of Save the Children. His experience in the non-government sector has included committee responsibilities in programs, audit and finance and risk.

Michael now works with organisations and their boards to improve their performance and to build their collaboration skills.

Michael has a longstanding interest in sailing and from 2011 to 2017 he and his wife, Christine, lived aboard and logged over 15,000 miles in the Pacific and the Mediterranean. Their current boat is a Contest 43.

Michael has been a member of the Ocean Cruising Club (London) since 2013. He has been a member of the AWBF since 2018 and a volunteer photographer at the Festival.
