Ice in the Rigging
Maritime Museum of Tasmania
Feel your toes and fingers icing up as you enjoy ‘Ice in the Rigging’, the Maritime Museum’s exhibition of ship models, art and photographs that celebrate nearly two hundred years of Hobart’s role as the Gateway to the Antarctic.
Elsewhere in the museum wood and boats abound throughout new exhibitions. Come along and immerse yourself in Tasmania’s rich maritime heritage. What’s not to love?

Women and Whaling
Narryna - The Merchant's House
Tasmania’s colonial whaling enterprises brought great wealth to Hobart and helped shaped the character of the city and its port. Drawn from both Narryna’s own collection and private collections, this exhibition includes a stunning display of scrimshaw, depictions of women from all walks of life, and an extensive array of functional domestic items typically associated with women’s work. The exhibition also explores how whaling products were used in the fashion industry and as an essential ingredient in perfumes and cosmetics.

The Lady Nelson Art Exhibition presented by TasPorts & ASMA
City Hall
Presented by TasPorts and The Australian Society of Marine Artists (ASMA). Ten leading Australian marine artists will sail the Tasmanian coastline, and create artworks inspired by the natural, physical and cultural marine environments on the journey. Artists from TAS, SA, NSW, QLD & Norfolk Island will offer an exciting mix of traditional & contemporary painting, sculpture & printmaking. All work will be available for sale.

The Recovery of the Clipper Ship City of Adelaide
Peacock Theatre, Salamanca Arts Centre
Launched in 1864, the City of Adelaide is the older of only 2 surviving composite clipper ships. The other is the world famous Cutty Sark.
The derelict vessel faced being broken up in Scotland when in 2000 an Adelaide group of volunteers started a campaign to save it.
This professionally made film shows the engineering task of designing how to lift the ship, its actual move from Scottish soil and its relocation to Port Adelaide.
