How’s Your Maritime History?
January 8, 2016Book Review – BOAT by Simon Griffiths
January 8, 2016[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Greetings, All
I hope that gentle over-indulgence over the holidays and the exceptionally warm weather provided you with a chance to relax with friends and family. Here at the AWBF we enjoyed the break and we’re now ready to get down to business with a very busy calendar for 2016.
We’ll be attending a series of promotional events in the next few months to fly the AWBF flag and answer questions about the MyState Australian Wooden Boat Festival 2017. We’ll kick off with the Royal Hobart Regatta from 6-8 February 2016. Come and see us at the Hobart Domain or snag a berth on one of the three tall ships cruising the ‘Channel Classic’ that weekend between the Kettering Wooden Boat Rally (5-7 February) and the Regatta. Later that month, we’ll put in an appearance at the Launceston Wooden Boat Rally (20-21 February) and in March, at the Apex Regatta in Devonport (Sunday March 1). Then it’s off to Sydney for the Classic and Wooden Boat Show at the Australian National Maritime Museum from 14-17 April 2016.
Steve Stone’s terrific video ‘Tasmania’s Warm Embrace’ has been a hit with our subscribers and the link has been circulated many hundreds of times. If you haven’t seen this cracking 7-minute video, you are really missing something. It’s a lovely look at Tasmania and the festival from the point of view of the folks at Off Center Harbor in Maine, USA.
In this issue of the AWBF Newsletter, look for some good news on the feature vessels signed up for the 2017 event and some rare opportunities for disabled sailors to get aboard an ocean-going square rigger for the adventure of a lifetime. If your friends are showing some interest in attending the festival in 2017, be sure to let them know about this newsletter. They can sign up in a jiffy from our home page.
