AWBF’s Parade of Sail – Are You Excited?

Join us in celebrating Tasmania’s rich maritime heritage and keep the AWBF spirit alive with the Australian Wooden Boat Festival’s Parade of Sail, to be held on Sunday 7^th February 2021. 

One of the first public events to go ahead in Tasmania and it can be enjoyed by all. The event has been re-created in conjunction with the Royal Hobart Regatta to celebrate Tasmanians and the rich maritime heritage in Tasmania. Join Hobart’s famous Tall Ships; SV Rhona H, Yukon, Windeward Bound and Lady Nelson, MYCT’s Launch Egeria and over 120 of Tasmania’s wooden boats in sailing, motoring, steaming and even rowing up the River Derwent.  

The event is free to all involved, family friendly and of course fun. The Parade of Sail 2021 will be held in conjunction with all COVID-19 restrictions and a reminder to follow social distancing requirements when viewing the event. See attached map, with course, times and vantage points.  

John Bertrand our newly appointed festival patron will be in town for the event and we cannot think of a better way to welcome Mr. Bertrand to the team.

What, where, when?

Sunday 7^th February 2021  

1100 – The fleet to assemble off the John Garrow Light.  

1130 – The MYCT’s Launch, Egeria will make a sound signal to indicate the official start of the Parade of Sail and head along a course that takes the boats past Wrest Point, then across to Rosny Point (overtaking the Egeria is considered poor form).    

1230 – The fleet to use the Flagship (RAN vessel anchored mid-stream) as a turning mark and head back to Sullivan’s Cove in front of the Regatta Ground.  

1235 – The Egeria take up station off the Regatta Ground for all the boats to sail past. 

1315 – The fleet to have cleared the start/finish line in readiness for the commencement of the Regatta’s afternoon sailing program.  

1350 – Warning signal for the start of the Regatta racing. AWBF fleet to return to home ports.   

Quick Reminder:

• The AWBF will have a vessel present for photography and safety, which will be clearly marked.   

• There will be a police presence – for official duty and for fun.
