September 30, 2024Simply the Best! Boatcraft Pacific returns for 2025 Festival
October 28, 2024The 2025 Australian Wooden Boat Festival is shaping up to be an unforgettable event, particularly for young adventurers and their families. AWBF is thrilled to announce the return of key supporter, The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel, along with the introduction of Variety—the Children’s Charity Tasmania. Together, they will be bringing a dynamic, family-friendly experience to Hobart’s Parliament Lawns with the ever-popular Little Sailors Village.
What’s New at Little Sailors Village?
The 2025 program, themed around the Pacific, promises exciting activities, blending culture, craftsmanship, and creativity. One of the main attractions is the Kumundar Gujo Project, an interactive Japanese-inspired jungle gym. Here, children will have the unique opportunity to learn traditional carpentry skills in a hands-on environment. Families can also enjoy Kapa haka workshops led by Melbourne-based Māori performing arts group Ngā Mātai Pūrua, celebrating Māori culture through dance, song, and storytelling.
Free Family Fun for All
Whether it’s the classic favourites or new activities, The Old Woolstore Little Sailors Village has something for everyone. Children can take part in the My First Boat Display and Parade, test their engineering skills with solar-powered boat races, or challenge themselves in knotcraft workshops. For those who enjoy a creative challenge, designing Huon pine boats or building bubbles is sure to inspire young minds. Other highlights include circus workshops, pirate dress-ups, face painting, and more!

Calm Among the Chaos: The Book Barge
For those seeking a moment of peace, Variety Tasmania is introducing The Book Barge, a tranquil reading nook where children can unwind with sea-themed stories. Families can escape the bustle of the festival while immersing their little ones in tales from the deep blue. The festival is encouraging the public to contribute to The Book Barge by donating new or pre-loved sea-themed children’s books. Book donations can be made through the festival’s website at awbf.org.au/book-barge.
Makerspace and Storytelling
Beyond books, The Old Woolstore Little Sailors Village will also feature the Mariner’s Makerspace, where children can craft ocean-inspired creations and enjoy interactive storytelling sessions. Whether building boats or spinning tales, the space is designed to spark curiosity and encourage creativity.
Stay Tuned for More
The full AWBF 2025 program will officially launch in early November. Until then, families can start preparing for a weekend full of exploration, creativity, and cultural discovery.
Mark your calendars for Saturday 8th to Monday 10th of February, 2025—the Little Sailors Village will be the place where imagination takes the helm!
