December 10, 2015We are delighted to announce that the MyState Australian Wooden Boat Festival 2015 has won first prize for Major Festivals or Events in the Tasmanian Tourism Awards . These awards honour exceptional contributions to the Tasmanian tourism industry. Winners in this competition go on to be finalists the Australian Tourism Awards, to be announced in February 2016. The award recognises that AWBF has played a big part in achieving a new benchmark for our island state, with more than 1,100,000 visitors in the year ending June 2015. Chairman Steve Knight accepted the award at a gala dinner at Wrest Point, attended by almost all of the industry’s leading figures.
We acknowledge that this award is largely due to the thousands of hours of creative and enthusiastic work contributed by our festival volunteers, including our all-volunteer board of directors, our project leaders, contractors and event crew. It’s a major win for an enormously popular public event that honours our long maritime heritage and our enduring love affair with wooden boats. Our sponsors and backers, including Events Tasmania, Hobart City Council, MyState, TasPorts, Wrest Point, Blundstone, Southern Cross and scores of others, make it possible to keep this great festival entirely free to the community.
Thank you to all of our supporters, and on the the Nationals!
