February 12, 2016[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We are very pleased to announce that the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) will enter into a closer association with the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in 2017. Last year’s highly successful International Wooden Boat Symposium saw notable speakers convened for a three-day program of talks, panel discussions and lively technical sessions. Meade Gougeon, the legendary designer and engineer of the West System was the keynote speaker, introduced by Her Excellency Professor The Honourable Kate Warner AM, Governor of Tasmania. The symposium was standing-room-only at the Dechaineaux Theatre in Hobart, courtesy of co-sponsors The University of Tasmania.
In 2017, we will welcome the ANMM as a major sponsor of the International Wooden Boat Symposium, which draws together internationally respected experts on boat design, restoration, navigation and craftsmanship. The Museum’s role as Australia’s national centre for maritime collections, exhibitions, research and archaeology is vital to keeping our maritime heritage alive. As custodians of the most important fleet of historic vessels in Australia and producer of numerous special exhibitions and traveling displays, the ANMM offers access to a wealth of maritime expertise and knowledge. Supporting the Symposium in Hobart at the 2017 festival helps to achieve their own goal of extending the museum’s reach to regional Australia.
The Australian National Maritime Museum also presents, in alternate years to the AWBF, the Classic & Wooden Boat Show in Sydney. This year’s event will run from 15-17 April 2016 and the Australian Wooden Boat Festival will be there with a traditional Tasmanian Piner’s Punt and brochures promoting the event. The Museum has also announced it will support the visit of HMS Bark Endeavour to Hobart in 2017.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”1127″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”862″ img_size=”400×400″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”1226″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row]
