June 23, 2022The AWBF is excited to announce a new partnership with Spirit of Tasmania to transport classic wooden Restricted 21s from across Australia to the Hobart waterfront in 2023.
The famous Forster Cup Rally will be held during the four-day event. Local vessel Tassie Too will compete against interstate rivals. Spirit of Tasmania will support two vessels will be coming from Victoria, 1820 and Jessamine, and one from New South Wales, Gymea.
Spirit of Tasmania have partnered to assist with costs in bringing the vessels from interstate. The Forster Cup Rally is back after a decade long hiatus and for 2023, named the Spirit of Tasmania Forster Cup.
The Aussie Surfboat Project presented by Spirit of Tasmania
Spirit of Tasmania will also assist in bringing over the Classic Australian Surfboat, Clymer. The vessel was restored by Kim Marsh in New South Wales. The 1971 Clymer was built by Bill Clymer Surfboats in Point Londsdale for the SLSC in Victoria. Kim will also speak at the Symposium during the Festival. Read more about Kim Marsh here.
The Australian Dinghy Display presented by Spirit of Tasmania
Spirit of Tasmania will also offer a Special Event Fare to travellers bringing dinghies to the Australian Wooden Boat Festival, to increase the number of wooden dinghies on shore. The AWBF will host The Australian Dinghy Display presented by Spirit of Tasmania during the event, with several dinghies on display throughout the festival site.
The AWBF Inc has an attendance of 51% interstate and international travellers (2019, Nielsen Report), and many travel by the Spirit of Tasmania, bringing caravans and trailer boats.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Bernard Dwyer said Spirit of Tasmania was proud to
support the AWBF.
