July 19, 2022Wooden Boat Builders – Tasmanian Special Timbers
July 25, 2022New commercial exhibitor Fluid in Motion/ARG share with you the process and story behind the installation of a new ARG 375T Gyro Stabiliser in 57ft Pilothouse motor cruiser Taslander. A rarity in a wooden boat!
New one for the History books!
Watch the installation of a new ARG 375T Gyro Stabiliser being installed in the Taslander 57ft Pilothouse motor cruiser.
The Taslander 57ft Pilothouse motor cruiser was Designed by UK Naval Architect, Frederick Parker and built by Cecil Cartledge, a well-known Launceston builder, Taslander was constructed to a 2C class survey and remained in survey until 2003. Maintained in excellent condition by the same experienced boating family for the past 35 years, this big volume cruiser has proven to be seaworthy, comfortable, and very reliable as she has cruised extensively throughout Moreton Bay, on many offshore fishing trips, and some 30 plus extended reef cruises.
Under the new owner she is undertaking a major refit by Pelican slipways in Redland Bay . This includes re-powering with John Deere engines, full rewiring and a new ARG375T gyro stabiliser – supplied and installed by Oceanlogic with the assistance of the team at Pelican slipways.
The install was very smooth. A prefabricated bracket, made by Lumark Metal Fabrication at GCCM, sits astride the existing engine bearers. Laser cut and gusseted to withstand the torque of the high performance ARG Gyro Stabiliser. The Gyro unit was then craned into place onsite and torqued up to the factory’s specifications. The ease of installing the ARG Gyro Stabilisation unit using eight bolts and two cables with no exposed moving parts, and no through hull fittings, making it a complimentary and convenient piece of machinery adding value to your vessel.
Given Taslander’s waterline length of 57 feet and her heavy weight, the ARG is the perfect addition. It will see her stabilised at anchor and on long ocean voyages. Thus increasing the owner, the crew and guests safety and comfort and allowing increased usage of the vessel whilst at sea. The ARG Stabilisation unit is an investment in the vessel that is reliable and extremely low maintenance. A very easy operating system, with the push of a button when you step on board and turn it off when you leave. Manufactured to globally unmatched heavy-duty standards for more than 24 years, this Japanese triumph of engineering offers a 5 year/5000 hour warranty.
The extensive refit will see Taslander back in action towards the end of 2022 and we can’t wait to see her new owner enjoying such a beautiful vessel to the fullest.
