October 10, 2017Veteran AWBF Dock Master Ross Barnett will be taking off in March on a cross-country road trip to the North Island, spreading the word about the 2019 Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart. Guided by navigator, project manager and partner Cheryl Barnett, Ross will be towing one of his splendidly restored Tasmanian Piner’s Punts to the Paynesville Classic Boat Rally on Victoria lovely Gippsland Lakes (3-4 March 2018).
The traditional punt will be in good Tasmanian company – the Guest of Honour at the Paynesville rally in 2018 is our own Lady Nelson and the historic Jock Muir yacht Westwind will be there, too.
Onwards to Geelong for the Geelong Wooden Boat Festival 10-12 March, winding up with a three-day stay at the Classic and Wooden Boat Festival 13-15 April in Sydney at the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM).
ANMM is a welcome partner and naming rights sponsor of the International Wooden Boat Symposium, to presented alongside the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in February 2018. The symposium draws leading experts from Australia and overseas to present lectures and demonstrations on wooden boat design, history, restoration and many other topics.
