Ahoy oyster lovers! Think you've got what it takes to crack, pry and shuck your way to glory?

Join us at the Gotta Love Tassie Seafood Marquee for the Amateur Oyster Shucking Competition at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival 2027. Whether you're a seasoned seafood enthusiast or simply keen to test your skills, this is your chance to step up to the shucking station, enjoy a little friendly competition and celebrate some of Tasmania's finest seafood.

Complete the Expression of Interest form below to be considered for a place in the Amateur Oyster Shucking Competition.

Places are limited and subject to organiser approval.

Expressions of Interest close Sunday, 22 November 2026. The competition will go ahead subject to sufficient interest, with a minimum of six participants required.

Before You Apply

Participants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Supply their own oyster shucking knife and cut-resistant glove.
  • Wear closed-toe footwear.
  • Follow all safety requirements outlined in the Expression of Interest form.

From AWBF to the World Stage

AWBF has a proud history of showcasing oyster shucking talent. Tasmanian competitor Zoe Jacobson, who took part in the festival's oyster shucking competition in 2023 and 2025, went on to become Australia's Oyster Shucking Champion and is now preparing to represent Australia at the 2026 World Oyster Opening Championships in Ireland.
