We’ve done the research for you and we are delighted to give you the latest update on all of the berthing facilities and availabilities, as well as give you all the tips and tricks on how to survive a Tassie Summer on the water!
We are expecting a larger than usual amount of boating activity for the Summer period, with Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race at the end of 2022 and the AWBF in February 2023. Some marinas are heavily booked for not only the AWBF period, but from December onwards, so we have created a list of local marinas below to touch base with if you intend on berthing in the area.
Tasmania has a relatively tight knit boating community, so it will be exciting to see some new boats and crew in our waters. Please use the information below as a guide only.
Berthing & Availability
Disclaimer: this is a brief list of marinas we work regularly with, there are more around Tassie that may have berths available.
Marine and Safety Tasmania – official leading maritime body in Tasmania.
MAST have a fantastic Cruising Webpage which includes cruising tips and tricks for all areas of Tassie (Macquarie Harbour, West Coast of Tasmania, Bruny Island & Huon River, Tasman Peninsula, East Coast of Tasmania, Northern Tasmania & Flinders Is and North West of Tasmania).
If you are travelling from interstate, all of the above pages are worth a read. We want you to have a fabulous journey in our Tasmanian waters, but please be prepared and carefully plan your trip. Some areas in Tasmania will require a Parks Pass, and remember to read up on our Biosecurity regulations (to keep us all safe).
Public Cruising Moorings & Berthing Facilities
MAST have a number of public moorings across the state, all of which have been funded by the Recreational Boating Fund. These moorings have rules and have a time limit of 4 hours per day, so please be considerate of other boaters. The moorings cannot be booked in advance and are used at own risk.
Weather
Weather in Tasmania can be 30+ degrees and calm one minute, and torrential rain and gusts of wind the next minute. We like to call it ‘unpredictable’, so please ensure your boat is up to scratch, your safety gear will be of use to you if you actually had to use it and bring clothing for four season!
