Wooden Boats of Tasmania – new playlist on AWBF Youtube
September 15, 2021BOAT BUILDERS – WOODEN BOAT CENTRE, TASMANIA
September 15, 2021The Wooden Boat Centre in Franklin, Tasmania, is the only wooden boat school still operating in Australia and has become a wooden boat building hub, since it’s inception in 1992. The WBC has seen beautiful boats head out through the front doors, including Zelectra (the electric speed boat), Huon Kelly and Tetsuya Wakuda’s own “Belle”. The WBC has been a strong partner of the AWBF plays an integral part of the Festival, specifically in the ‘Shipwright’s Village’.
When Kelvin Aldred (ex Food and Beverage Manager at the AWBF, now WBC Volunteer) got in touch to ask if we would help spread the word that the search was on for a new Ops Manager at the WBC, we of course obliged.
Little did we know, one of our greatest volunteers here at the AWBF would apply and be awarded the position!! Christine has been a long serving AWBF volunteer, sharing her love of wooden boats with other volunteers while on the berthing crew and assisting in many other roles. We would like to congratulate Christine on her new role and we look forward to working with her on future events.
The students at the WBC have almost completed the Franklin 29 build and we are looking forward to seeing the finished product, keep in mind, she will be up for sale soon! The WBC also have some openings for courses to finish 2021, as well as some openings for courses in 2022.
