August 30, 2022The AWBF organisers are excited to announce another partnership with the Australian National Maritime Museum, as they drop anchor in Tasmania. The organisation will support the Wooden Boat Symposium once again and jump onboard for the Australian National Maritime Museum Boat Builders of Australia display.
The Australian National Maritime Museum have partnered with the AWBF for the Wooden Boat Symposium for several festivals, promoting wooden boat culture and conversations. The Australian National Maritime Museum is the national centre for maritime collections, exhibitions, experiences and knowledge, custodians of historic vessels and the cultural hub for stories and heritage. We are proud to partner with Australian National Maritime Museum to bring you the Australian National Maritime Museum Wooden Boat Symposium.
Australian National Maritime Museum Wooden Boat Symposium 2023
Held in the Dechaineux Theatre on historic Hunter Street, the Australian Maritime Museum Wooden Boat Symposium presents an impressive line up of professionals and enthusiasts sharing their love of wooden boats and expertise on the topic. Topics will range from maritime history, restoration of wooden boats, Australian builders and designers to indigenous watercraft.
The jam packed program will feature maritime leaders including David Payne from NSW (Australian Indigenous Watercraft), Len Randell from WA (Rugged and other wooden boat designs from WA), Bill Wright from QLD (Boats of Norman Wright & Sons) and more. This festival the symposium will highlight the designers and builders from around Australia, and punters will have the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the speakers.
Theatre style sessions will run over two days during the festival and entry is free.
Australian National Maritime Museum Boat Builders of Australia
The Australian National Maritime Museum Boat Builders of Australia display will feature Bygone Boat builders profiles; a selection of the most significant historic boat builders and designers from around Australia. The exhibit will feature self-contained boxes that unpack to reveal the design speciality of these boat builders, through graphic panelling, text, images, and Australian National Maritime Museum collection items.
This display will be at the heart of the festival, to celebrate and explore the centuries of designers and boat builders in Australia. The exhibit will feature displays on notable builders, classes and designers like the Restricted 21s, C. Blunt Boat Builders, Ray Kemp, Len Randell, Wilson Brothers, Norman R Wright & Sons, Jock Muir, Halvorsen, Wooden Boat Shop and more!
