Russell and Trim; The story of a little lifeboat
August 2, 2021Denis goes on the Maritime Trail
August 17, 2021We are excited to announce another series of films that we have been working on….. The Boat Builders!
First up we have Wilson’s Boat Yard – with Jay Lawry.
Down on the shoreline of Gardner’s Bay, Tasmania, stands the institution Wilson’s Boat Yard. Established in 1863, the Wilson family have produced some of Tasmania’s best wooden vessels. In an unassuming waterfront shed, the Wilson’s have rebuilt, restored and created many classic Tasmanian wooden boats and have been a significant name in the industry for over 150 years.
The AWBF sat down with Jay Lawry in April 2021, and chatted about all things boat building and what makes the dying trade so special, especially in Tasmania. The Wilson’s Boat Yard was the first tour in the AWBF’s Maritime Trail to sell out, and was the most talked about afterwards. The participants were able to wander around the two sheds, before the older shed was demolished in May.
The AWBF would like to thank ATL Composites for partnering with us to produce the films, the participants of the films that keep the trade alive and Rummin for creating the films.
